Welcome! This is a website that everyone can build together. It's easy!

Welcome to our International Discussion Group on monitoring and evaluation in school health promotion and social development. This web site provides access to an extensive list of national and state/provincial reports on school health promotion/social development as well as several web-based discussions (using webinars and wiki-based pages) about monitoring, reporting and indicators of progress in school health promotion, social development, school safety and community schools.

This web site provides an excellent starting place for locating national and state reports on child/youth health and social development, the status of school-based and school-linked programs and policies and the current health literacy, education and career preparation of students.
This web site also provides updates on international initiatives and developments relating to school health indicators.

This wiki has also been created by the
International School Health Network to support an ongoing international dialogue on these topics:
  • monitoring and reporting systems
  • program evaluation methods and criteria
  • school recognition programs (small incentive funding, certificates etc)
  • school accreditation/awards recognizing levels of whole school achievement
  • self-assessment tools for schools, local agencies, governments and research funding agencies
  • data-based decision-making
  • integrating health & social development into school improvement and reporting systems
  • Indicator Development: Relevance, Reliability
  • Survey Development & Measurement
In 2008-09, five webinars, selected readings and a background paper were completed. In 2009-10, an international, online discussion is being facilitated with a view to preparing four "encyclopedia" documents on monitoring and reporting systems. Visitors to and members of this wiki/web site are encouraged to comment upon and even edit the draft documents on Monitoring & Reporting Systems found on this site.

In future activities, we hope to have similar wiki-based discussions of related topics as noted above. Eventually, these documents will be published in a global glossary and encyclopedia on school health, safety and social development.
As well, we hope to publish a handbook in e-book format using all of the documents. If you are interested in writing, editing or contributing to these documents, please contact dmccall@internationalschoolhealth.org

The ISHN gratefully acknowledges the Division of Adolescent and School Health, U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for its financial support for the webinar and wiki components of this project that has been delivered in cooperation with the International Union for Health Promotion. We also thank the Health and Learning Knowledge Centre of the Canadian Council on Learning for its financial support in preparing a background paper that has guided the content of the project.
